In its important role promoting the domestic and overseas furniture industries, Furniture China improves its quality every year and presents more innovative ideas. Three major highlights this year are pavilions, design and conferences.

Besides the key Chinese furniture enterprises, there will be around 170 overseas companies participating as exhibitors, including eight country pavilions: French, Spanish, Portuguese, Belgian, Indonesian, the Philippines, Malaysian and Singaporean. It is obvious to see that more and more overseas companies choose Furniture China as their most important and valuable platform for exploring not only the Chinese and Asian markets, but also over 100 countries of other continents.

Design is always a popular topic. For the furniture industry, how to make the furniture products more attractive and special but still comfortable and humanistic is the eternal pursuit of designers and manufacturers. During this year's exhibition, two locations are arranged mainly about design: Hall W5 (Design Hall) at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) and DoD (Design of Designers) at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center (SWEECC). It is a great opportunity to discover many pieces of furniture created by talented designers and to join the forums and presentations on the relevant topics.

The other highlight requires most concern is the World Furniture Summit 2012, a pre-eminently important event held concurrently on 11 September at the Kerry Hotel Pudong. The topic centres on "The Impact & Outlook of the World Furniture Industry after the Global Financial Crisis" with the goal of facilitating an actual exchange of information among world furniture markets while aiming at strengthening relationships in the furniture industry in countries all over the world.

The World Furniture Summit 2012 will invite esteemed speakers including Mr Zhu Chang Ling ̶ President of the China National Furniture Association; Mr. Denis Heylen ̶ President of European Furniture Retailers Association FENA ; Mr Todd Wanick – President & CEO of Ashley Furniture Industries Inc and Dr Lim Cheok Sin ̶ Chairman of the Council of Asia Furniture Associations, who will all share their views and participate in a friendly discussion of the topic. Other distinguished speakers are IAFP members from Australia, Turkey, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Romania, Mexico, France, Britain and Russia who will also get highly involved in this magnificent event.

Strangely, stolen Salvador Dali painting reappears by mail - Los Angeles Times

Recovering stolen masterpieces can sometimes take years of police sleuthing. But in the case of a recently pilfered Salvador Dali painting, a resolution has come swiftly, if somewhat mysteriously.

Dali's "Cartel de Don Juan Tenirio" was recently mailed back to the New York gallery from which it was stolen June 19. The parcel, which the gallery received on Friday, was mailed from Greece, according to the New York Post, which was the first to report the bizarre return.

The culprit remains unknown, and the return address on the parcel is believed to be fake.

A surveillance video captured an unidentified man in the gallery around the same time the painting was believed to have been taken from a wall. The gallery is the Venus over Manhattan, located in the Upper East Side neighborhood of New York. The theft took place during business hours.

The painting has an estimated value of $150,000. The Post reported that police investigators and the gallery have confirmed the authenticity of the work.

The Post reported that the gallery received an email from an unknown sender earlier last week saying that the painting was being sent back.

The sudden reappearance of stolen art is not without precedent. Last year, a drawing that was attributed to Rembrandt was stolen from a hotel in Marina del Rey, only to resurface a few days later at a church in Encino.

Experts later cast doubt on the authenticity of that Rembrandt drawing.

Customers blame national furniture retailer for bedbugs - msnbc.com

A Channel 4 I-Team investigation found people in four states blaming furniture retailer Aaron's for delivering furniture that contained bedbugs.

One former customer in Atlanta is suing the company for gross negligence, as well as economic and emotional harm.

Army veteran Chris Bailey rented a recliner from the Aaron's store on Nolensville Road and said at first he thought he was allergic to the fabric because he was constantly itching.

Bailey is recovering from an IED explosion in Iraq and needed a recliner to sleep comfortably.

After having the recliner for months, Bailey found a bed bug crawling on his arm.

When Bailey took a closer inspection inside the folds of the chair, he found more bed bugs and eggs.

Since then, he's been spraying the chair with cleaning solutions and insecticides.

"It's been all out combat on the chair in my apartment," Bailey said.

Bailey showed the I-Team the bites up and down his biceps, as well as the dead bugs and eggs in his chair.

"I want to drive down to Aaron's and put my foot into someone's rear end," Bailey said.

The Channel 4 I-Team found customers in Jacksonville, FL, Portland, OR, and Atlanta all making similar complaints.

Chinaza Alexander from Atlanta is suing Aaron's, claiming she found bed bugs in the mattresses she received from the store.

"We also believe it's a systematic and pervasive problem that Aaron's has with this issue," said Alan Kan, Alexander's attorney.

Travis Kephart and his wife captured video of the bugs crawling on the couch the received from an Aaron's store in Portland, OR, and took photographs of the bed bugs bites on his back and legs.

"I looked like a cheetah," Kephart said.

All of the customers said in interviews that they either rented or leased-to-own the furniture and expected it to be clean.

All the customers also said they complained to Aaron's about the bed bugs, but the company denied the bugs came from their store.

But each customer said they'd never had problems with bed bugs before the furniture arrived.

"They (Aaron's) tried to say they were ours, but we called BS on that and said there's no way," said Ashlea Belloit, who rented furniture from a Jacksonville, FL, Aaron's store.

A spokeswoman for Aaron's refused our request for an on-camera interview.

But Tristan Montanero, Aaron's divisional vice president of central operations, stated in an email, "While it is well understood that it is extremely difficult to determine the origins of bedbugs, Aaron's has a robust quality assurance program that includes inspection and treatment of its merchandise prior to lease or purchase."

The Channel 4 I-Team wanted to know how the cleaning process worked at the Aaron's Nolensville Road store where Bailey received his recliner, so we sent in our hidden cameras.

One employee, who identified herself as the person who cleaned the furniture, said they did clean mattresses with chemicals to kill bed bugs, but said they didn't treat the other furniture for bed bugs.

The employee said they do inspect all furniture.

An Aaron's spokeswoman couldn't comment on our undercover video, but Montanero stated in the email, "Every piece of furniture returned through Aaron's pre-leased program undergoes a thorough inspection."
